health hiccup #2 – do you do this?

Yesterday, I wrote about the most common health hiccup my ladies are going through when they first begin to work with me – my Cardio Queens forgetting about the very important muscle mass developed through progressive weight training, the only way “we must we must increase our bust” LOL 😉

Today, I the second health hiccup. Do you do this – IGNORING YOUR BODY’S SUBTLE CUES?

It seems that as we age, metabolism does slow down for various reasons, including genetics, hormones, and diet, to name a few. Add into the mix the fact that body fat increases incrementally after age 30, with fat accumulating around the middle, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Common symptoms of metabolism slow down include:
-Ongoing fatigue – feeling exhausted even after a good sleep
-Continuous headache
-Weight gain
-Constipation
-Depression
-Thin hair, brittle nails, dry skin

If you don’t take steps to rev up your metabolism and adjust to the messages your body is sending you, you could potentially pack on double-digit pounds as you age. SO HOW DO WE DEAL WITH THAT?!

Strength training not only burns calories, but it increases the percentage of muscle mass in your body which boosts your metabolism in the long-term, (see my health hiccup #1 in yesterday’s post. Other tiops includes limiting your intake of processed foods and fill up on lean proteins and omega-3s like fish and nuts. Also, make fruits and vegetables a staple portion of each meal!
