SCAM ALERT. This may just burst your bubble, but sorry, not sorry. I’ve been a personal trainer long enough to see, first hand experience and work with many women who have fallen victim to these very, horrible fad diet claims that promise 6 pack abs and the body of your dreams. TBH, in my diet hey days, I’ve tried more than a few of them. Have you?
The Blood Type Diet: Eating according to your blood type. As an O blood type myself, this O-directed high protein, low carb diet is referred to as the Hunter. Current similar diets to this? The Paleo Diet popular amongst the Crossfit community.
The HCG Diet: Yep, been there done that. Yuck! This bizarre ‘diet’ involves being injected with or orally taking drops that include the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which the body naturally produces while pregnant. Add to this concoction the diet mandate that you’re limited to 500 calories a day for eight weeks, it doesn’t take a genius to work out it’s not the hCG causing the weight loss.
The Lemonade Diet: Remember this? I heard that Demi Moore and Beyonce did this to get “stage ready” and so I just had to give it a go. Completely deprived of solid foods, the lemonade dieters are allowed to drink just 6 to 10 glasses of lemonade (made from lemons, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper) a day, with a glass of salt water in the morning and a laxative at night. Yep, laxative at night? BUT WHY?!?!
Despite the name, the celebrity endorsements or the claims, diets can often lead to malnutrition and disordered eating habits. And ALL DIETS have the same outcome – initially you lose weight (through starvation and eliminating food groups); but, of course, once you begin eating normally again, those lost pounds will pile right back on.
Before starting a new diet, instead ask yourself :
What food style can I picture myself eating forever?
