why exercise and diet can sometimes be bad for you

For a good chunk of my 20s and 30s, I lived with severe refractory #ulcerativecolitis. And all that time, I thought I was doing an excellent job of faking it.

My clients and those close to me knew better. I spent far too long putting being sick “on hold” until my stomach disease told me what was really up (I have no control over anything).

I was stuck in this murky water of exercise and diet for “health” and doing too much of these “good” things that were actually causing me more harm than good. 

But I was too in it to see it. I was too bothered trying to hit that number on the scale, trying to PR at triathlon races; trying to maintain this body shape I had in my head. And I always always rationalized my sickness away (in my mind) with this:

E̴x̴e̴r̴c̴i̴s̴e̴ ̴a̴n̴d̴ ̴d̴i̴e̴t̴i̴n̴g̴ ̴a̴r̴e̴ ̴g̴o̴o̴d̴ ̴f̴o̴r̴ ̴y̴o̴u̴,̴ ̴n̴o̴t̴ ̴b̴a̴d̴!̴

I guess you could say I was at the other end of the food fitness extreme – I did too much of what most ladies I encounter do too little of (diet and exercise). Either way, either “version” led to being not healthy after all. 

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲, 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁! 

If you aren’t taking care of you, you won’t be able to care for anyone else! So forget trying to get into that size or weight, move your body, eat well and appreciate the skin you are already in!
