what to eat before and after a workout

I used to wait as long as I could before eating. Workout for 2 hours. Come home and do chores and work. And when I couldn’t take it anymore, I would eat… A LOT.

I was forcing my body to perform and screwing it over every time she showed up for me. Old habits die hard.

Here are some tips to button up your performance nutrition:

👉🏾pre-workout (1-3 hours before) higher carbs, moderate to high protein, low fat.

👉🏾Avoid high fat foods or foods that mess with your stomach.

👉🏾keep your pre and post workout food consistent. Keep it 3-4 ingredients at most. Find the timing that works best for you!

Personally, I stick with oats and egg whites or oats and whey protein powder. Coffee and almond milk. A little bit of nut butter. I feel satisfied not stuffed and fueled up to move!

👉🏾post-workout meals should be 1-2 hours after training.

👉🏾follow the same pre-workout meal strategy of high carb, moderate to high protein and low fat for your post-workout meal.

👉🏾if ya can’t eat within that timeframe, have a protein shake or protein bar. Adding in some whole food carbs like fruit is a quick carb refuel energy booster!

👉🏾Pre-planning and pre-packing your food for these busy days is key!
