hormones 101 how to balance your blood sugar so you can lose weight once and for all

In my 20s and 30s, I never paid attention to my hormones.

As soon as I turned 18 and had medical insurance, I was adamant to be on the pill 💊 (birth control). I never thought twice about the possible implications the pill would have on my own fertility (after all, I was too busy swimming, biking, running and food restricting my hormones into the ground).

Back then, I approached my goals with an all or nothing mindset…
👉🏽always on a diet
👉🏽always under eating
👉🏽always bingeing
👉🏽cutting out carbs
👉🏽relying on cardio to feel better about bingeing
👉🏽ingesting a lot of fat burners and pre workout chemicals

Year after year, I burned my body down so much so that in my 30s, my OBGYN said my blood labs were headed into menopause. I was headed in colon removal surgery and went through a battery of tests to see how my body would hold up for surgery.

And it was then that I stopped taking the pill. And started learning about my own hormones, working with a Functional Diagnostic Nutritional Practitioner and a Doctor of Functional and Nutritional Medicine.

Once I began to tune IN and not tune out; pay attention to my body’s signals and learning the inside mental and emotional work to change old behaviors, was I able bring my hormones back into balance. Yep, it takes a village and a lot of time, but balanced hormones allow for you to finally begin to see results you work really hard for.

Here’s the major dial movers to keep your own hormones in check:

1. Eat all food groups in balance. No eliminating. No fasting.

2. Use my Build-Bill-Bliss method when eating your meals.

3. Focus on improving your sleep and minimizing stress.

4. Lift weights at least 2x per week and use cardio as an activity you enjoy, not as an activity to “purge.”

5. Stop fixating on how fast you get your results! The path will be long and bumpy but worth it! Remember, meaningful change isn’t linear!
