6 common macro tracking hiccups that may be stalling your weight loss goals

Are you making any of these macro tracking hiccups?

These are the topics I help my #macrosmadeeasy clients navigate!

1. GENERIC MEASUREMENTS: steer clear from using generic measurements such as 1 large banana; 1/2 avocado; 1/4 of an apple, etc. Use your food scale and measure and track in grams!

2. Measuring VOLUME instead of WEIGHT. Don’t use measuring cups or spoons. Use a food scale. Weigh dry food in grams. Weigh liquids in mL or ounces!

3. Eye 👁️ Balling: grabbing a handful of nuts; a spoonful of peanut butter; a few cookies… these can add up quick when you eyeball portions. Most times, we UNDERESTIMATE our portions, myself included!

4. RAW vs COOKED: When tracking, you want to make sure you are weighing AND logging as RAW or weighing AND logging as cooked. Cooked protein decreases in weight, so weighing raw and tracking as cooked will underestimate the calories you are actually eating!

5. BLTS: Not tracking your BITES, LICKS and TASTES can also rack up added calories quick. You bite your kid’s leftover PBJ. You taste a spoon of Nutella after making your child a treat. You have that pizza crust your hubby left on his plate. You taste a couple of chips out of the bag. You lick the spatula after frosting a cake. These add up!

6. AFTER THE FACT: You eat FIRST and track later “hoping” “thinking” “wishing” it will fit. Tracking after the fact is the same as not tracking at all. Most times, it doesn’t fit. Or you bend the rules and “make it fit.” If you are eating FIRST and tracking later, it’s like spilled milk. What’s done is done. No biggee if you have more food flexibility but if you are trying to lose fat, this habit is a MAJOR fat loss killah! Even if you think it ended up working out, if we get REAL, it probably didn’t really unless you are eating the exact same pre-portioned meal you had before; a meal that was already pre-made and pre-weighed (like a meal prep meal).
