to eat or not to eat – that is the question

It’s really tempting to not want to think about it and skip the food before your workout. But did you know that this could be doing more harm than good if your goal is to make those gains in the gym?

Proper eating before you exercise fuels your workout and maximizes your efforts and results!

Would you race your car for a hard 25 mile effort with zero gas?

Would you send your kid off to play in his competitive sport event without eating first?

If you eat correctly you’ll be able to work out harder!

Eating before a workout also prevents low blood sugar, (no lightheadedness and fatigue here)! With that being said, don’t eat like an A-hole either – resist the urge for the triple mocha latte, or a piece of cold pizza before you head to the gym! The quality of nutrition does also matter.

I had a gal who came to my weekly #indoorcycling class religiously every Monday evening. She never brought water. Instead, she always brought a Grande Starbucks Iced Frappuccino to class instead. One day after class, she asked if I could suggest a remedy for her acid reflux.

“AH, hello! Let’s start with giving that frappe a boot!”

Personally, I do my cardio in the morning fasted. I lift in the evenings, well fueled.

Here are a few of my go-to pre workout quickie meals:

-banana + premier protein shake

-Protein coffee + 2 Hawaiian kings sweet rolls

-oatmeal + protein powder mixed in

-crispy English muffin + egg beaters + reduced fat cheese

-frozen egg white and sausage flat bread + protein coffee
